The BMW X3 petrol is powered by a 2.0-litre inline-4 engine whereas the X5 gets a bigger 3.0-litre inline-six petrol motor.
BMW India has finally launched the petrol derivatives of the X3 and X5 in the market. Dubbed the X3 xDrive28i and X5 xDrive35i, the new variants are priced at Rs 54.90 lakh and Rs 73.50 lakh, respectively (both prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi). Both the petrol models will be assembled locally at BMW’s Chennai plant.
The petrol version of the X3, the xDrive28i, will come powered by a 2.0-litre in-line four-cylinder turbo petrol unit that’s capable of developing 241bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak-torque between 1,250 – 4,800rpm. On the other hand, the X5 xDrive35i comes fitted with a bigger and more powerful 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder turbo petrol that churns out 302bhp and 400Nm of torque between 1,200 – 5,000rpm. Both the vehicles come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox while all-wheel drive is standard. Performance wise, both the vehicles will do 0-100km/h within 6.5 seconds, claims BMW. The X3 xDrive28i will be available in a choice between 4 exterior shades - Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Deep Blue and Melbourne Red. The X5 xDrive35i will have Alpine White, Black Sapphire Imperial Blue and Sparkling Brown on option. In terms features, the petrol versions will come loaded with the same levels of equipment and creature comfort as their respective diesel counterparts. Also, the X5 petrol will only be available as a 5-seater.

The BMW X3 xDrive28i will be competing with the Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 and Land Rover Discovery Sport petrol. The X5 xDrive35i will go against the Mercedes-Benz GLE 400.
