BMW first showcased the 4-series concept at the Detroit Motorshow and now the Bavarian company has unveiled the 4-series Coupe. The Frankfurt Motorshow, which is to be held in September, will mark the public debut of the BMW 4-series.
BMW has planned to provide three turbocharged engine options in the new 4-series. BMW also says that there will be a choice of, either a rear or four-wheel drive in certain models. Internationally five trim levels will be on offer - SE, Sport, Modern, Luxury and M Sport.
The three engines that we were talking about will be – a four cylinder 181 bhp churning turbo diesel mill for the 420d, a 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder 242bhp churning petrol one for the 428i and a 302bhp, 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol, for the 435i.
A six-speed manual gearbox will be offered as standard on all the models. An eight-speed automatic will also be on offer, but as an optional.
The 4-series might just be one of the sportiest cars in the BMW line-up. BMW has tuned the springs, dampers and axle responses for increased agility. On first glance the 4-series borrows a lot from the 3-series saloon and the front end is almost similar. The long frameless doors carry forward the tradition of BMW.
Inside too, the 4-series Coupe isn’t different from its 3-series saloon cousin. It shares its dashboard, instrument panel and centre console. But it’s got a longer wheel base and that means more legroom but the boot space is only up by 5 litres when compared to the 3-series saloon.
We will see it in the flesh in Frankfurt come September but till then here are some pictures for your eyes to feast on. Enjoy!
