BMW has revealed its eagerly awaited 2-series coupé ahead of a public debut at the Detroit motor show. The successor to the rear-wheel drive 1-series coupe is 4432mm in length, 1774mm wider and 1418mm taller. It’s longer, wider and lower than the outgoing 1-series coupé and also has a longer wheelbase too.
The 2 series will get a twin-scroll turbocharged 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol engine which will churn out 321bhp. It will be mated to a six speed manual gearbox, which will come as standard. The 2-series will be capable of going from 0-100km/h in 5 seconds.
The interior more or less like the second-generation 1-series hatchback, including the dashboard, front seats and switchgear. Among the standard equipment planned for the 2-series coupé is air conditioning, a leather-bound multi-function steering wheel, rear park sensors, automatic dimming rear view mirror and LED tail-lights.
BMW will assemble the 2-series coupé at its Leipzig factory.
