BMW Neue Klasse Cars with 800V Gen6 eDrive Tech to offer 30% Faster Charging and More Range
BMW is ushering in a new era with its sixth-generation eDrive technology, bringing significant advancements to its electric vehicles.

BMW has begun to reveal exciting technical details about its upcoming electric vehicles built on the innovative Neue Klasse platform, marking a bold shift in its EV strategy. The platform is designed for flexibility, accommodating a variety of body styles, from sedans and SUVs to potential high-performance models. The first model to arrive on this platform is expected to be an electric crossover, likely adopting the iX3 name, with a launch slated for the latter half of this year. At the Tech Days event in Landshut, BMW offered a glimpse into its advancements in high-voltage battery technology and electric drive systems, which will feature the sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology.
This next-gen system will replace the current Gen5 eDrive, debuting first in the iX3, and will later extend to BMW's entire electric range, including M models. Additionally, the technology is reported to find its way into future Mini and Rolls-Royce models. With these innovations, BMW is set to push the boundaries of electric performance and efficiency, shaping the future of its EV lineup.

What does the sixth-generation BMW eDrive tech bring to Neue Klasse Cars?
BMW is ushering in a new era with its sixth-generation eDrive technology, bringing significant advancements to its electric vehicles. At its core, the new system features an 800-volt charging architecture and upgraded cylindrical battery cells, which deliver five times more energy density than the prismatic cells used in previous models. As a result, the upcoming Gen6 vehicles will charge 30% faster and offer up to 30% more range compared to existing BMW EVs, with some models surpassing even those gains. Additionally, all Gen6 EVs will feature bi-directional charging.
BMW's battery technology takes a bold step forward by embedding cylindrical cells directly into the battery pack, turning it into a key structural element of the vehicle. This innovative design not only reduces weight but also enhances the car's strength while maintaining a sleek, streamlined profile.
