2024 will be the first time in the history of BMW's M Division that the model selection will include both an M3 and an M5 Touring. A wagon version of the seventh generation M5 has just been announced; this is the first one since the adored E61 model with its V10 engine. In almost 40 years of the M5, the new vehicle will be just the third estate; the first being the straight-six E34 from the early 1990s. A few teaser photos reveal the 2025 M5 Touring prototype in various disguises as well as the final, undisguised vehicle hidden behind a car black cover. They provide the impression of a classy wagon with a more upright tail than the current E-Class wagon, a noticeable roof spoiler, discreetly enlarged fenders, and M's signature quad exhaust tips.

BMW M5 Touring: The S68 Twin-Turbo V8 Engine
After the M5 Sedan (G90) rolls off the manufacturing line in July 2024, the M5 Touring is anticipated to follow in November. BMW plans to sell the high-performance wagon in the US, unlike the smaller M3 Touring. Dirk Häcker, Head of Development, BMW M GmbH, said, "We are now also installing a hybrid drive system with typical M performance in other high-performance cars." The plug-in hybrid V8 that made its debut in the XM will be adapted for use in the new M5, according to the M division. Reportedly, the overall power output will be approximately 728bhp.
The third edition of the long-roof M5 will employ the newly developed S68 engine, as opposed to the inline-six used by the M5 Touring E34 and the huge 5.0-litre V10 used by the E61 that came after it. The 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 will combine with an electric motor to produce the heaviest and most powerful M5 ever built. Similar to the XM colossus, the new M5 versions will only be available with xDrive and an automatic gearbox.

BMW M5 Touring: Rivals and Expected Launch
Expect more spy photos to start surfacing shortly as the German luxury carmaker will commence the real-world testing process in the coming days. The statement from the auto major read, “Testing of the first prototypes of the new BMW M5 Touring is to commence in the next few days in urban traffic as well as on country roads and motorways around Munich and at the BMW M GmbH headquarters in Garching.” BMW might introduce the M5 Touring in 2024, most likely concurrently with or shortly after the introduction of the new M5. The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo, the forthcoming Mercedes-AMG E63 S Estate, and the Audi RS6 Avant will compete with the M5 Touring.
