The 2014 BMW X3 made its debut in India and is available at a price starting of Rs 44.9 lakh (all across India ex-showroom) for the base xDrive 20d Expedition. The new X3 will be available in two variants - xDrive 20d Expedition and xDrive 20d xLine. The new X3 will be locally produced at the BMW plant in Chennai.
According to BMW, the X3 xDrive 20d is the first model to feature the latest-generation diesel engine with outstanding performance and low fuel consumption. The new generation of all-aluminium two-litre diesel engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology uses common rail direct injection with solenoid valve injectors and works with increased injection pressure. This engine pumps out 187bhp and 400Nm of torque and accelerates 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds with a top speed of 210 km/h. The 20d is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that sends power to all four wheels with the help of the xDrive system.
The X3 gets a bigger and a more eye catching kidney grille finished in all chrome, similar to the X5, which enhances its visual appeal. The restyled twin circular headlights are more angular and extend to the new bumpers. The cabin gets premium interiors with chrome accents, coverable cup holders, wider HVAC display, which comes with re-engineered optional navigation system, and new dials. The classy wooden finish, like X5, adds pomp to this luxurious SUV.
“The new BMW X3 is the embodiment of independence, whether it’s on the way to work or on a weekend, with family or for some quality time alone. It is built for both the small and big challenges that each day brings,” Philipp von Sahr, President, BMW Group India said.
