BMW will soon join the all-electric SUV bandwagon in India. The BMW iX will be launched by mid-December, with deliveries likely to commence from early 2022.
The Mercedes-Benz EQC, Audi e-tron SUV and Sportback, and Jaguar I-Pace will soon have a new rival. BMW India will launch its new all-electric SUV, the iX, in the first half of next month.
The BMW iX made its global debut almost a year ago in two variants – the xDrive 40 and the xDrive 50. The xDrive 40, which is the lower variant, features a 71kWh battery pack. The output for this variant is marked at 326bhp and 630Nm torque. The BMW iX xDrive 40 variant can do the 0-100km/h run in 6.1 seconds. According to the WLTP test-cycle, the single-charge range of the xDrive 40 is marked at 414km.
The higher xDrive 50 variant gets a larger 105kWh battery pack. A larger battery pack has resulted in an increased range. The xDrive 50 does 611km (claimed) in one full charge. The power is rated at 523bhp and 765Nm. The higher power figures result in an impressive performance as well and this variant can sprint from a stand still to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds. The BMW iX features a twin-motor setup, which essentially means the iX will have an all-wheel-drive layout.
The BMW iX can be charged using a wall mounted charger which takes up to 11 hours for a full juice up. The DC fast charger can do the same within 40 minutes. BMW India is likely to introduce both the variants and the xDrive 40 is likely to see a price tag close to Rs 1 crore (ex-showroom).
