Well, the time has gone when a car used to take centuries to come to Indian shores after being launched in the Western world. Nowadays, the carmakers take India as importantly as any other market in the world. That’s the reason just a few months after being launched globally, the BMW i8 will make its Indian debut in February.

Powered by a three-cylinder, 1,499 cc twin-turbo engine that churns out a maximum power of 231bhp clubbed with a hybrid synchronous motor that delivers a maximum of 131bhp making the total power of the car go up to the mark of 362bhp. The torque delivered by the engine is 320Nm at 3,700rpm and the motor generates 250Nm of it at the press of the pedal. The car will reach the 100 kmph mark from ground zero in just 4.4 seconds and is capable of going up to 250 kmph with the engine kicking in and 120 kmph with just the motor. If run only on the batteries, the car will cover a total distance of 37 kms. Another interesting fact is that the engine, when engaged, powers the rear wheel and the electric motor powers the front wheels only.

The launch will happen in Mumbai on February 18 and the car will be unveiled by Mr. Sachin Tendulkar, the brand ambassador of BMW in India.
