With our market being the only one with right-hand drive and the first outside of China to receive the expanded luxury sedan, the BMW 5 Series LWB has been unveiled in India. The eighth-generation model was globally revealed in May last year. After the 3 Series Gran Limousine and the 7 Series, it is now the third long-wheelbase sedan in the brand's India lineup. Upon launch, the upcoming model will take on the segment leader, the long-wheelbase Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Pricing details and more technical specifications will be disclosed on July 24, 2024, but for now, here is what we know.

BMW 5 Series LWB: Dimensions and Styling
At 5,175mm in length, 1,900mm in width, 1,520mm in height, and 3,105mm in wheelbase, the new 5 Series LWB is the largest vehicle in the segment. These dimensions are greater than those of the forthcoming LWB E-Class. Strategic contour lines, contrasting colours, and a flowing roofline give the car a coupe-like appearance. The 5-Series LWB's size draws attention to the wheel-arch gaps even with its sporty 18-inch Y-spoke wheels; 19-inch wheels are available. Sporty trim inserts, a wider illuminated grille, and light gold brushed metallic highlights are features of the M Sport version.
Large windows and a fixed moon roof let in enough light, and the expanded wheelbase offers plenty of headroom and legroom as well. But unlike its competitors, it does not have sunshades or back seat adjustments. With a 31-degree recline, the fixed seat design emphasises more cushioning for comfort.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Interior and Features
With a dual curved screen arrangement that includes a 14.9-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital driver display, the 5 Series LWB provides cutting-edge technology. The cabin has metal speaker grilles, open-pore wood, and vegan upholstery. A wireless phone charging pad is now integrated into the pull-down armrest. The extensive ADAS suite lacks adaptive cruise control even though it comes with front-seat ventilation, matrix LED headlamps, and an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system. Other features include ambient lighting, four-zone climate control, near-invisible seam vents, revamped steering wheel design, and a panoramic sunroof.

BMW 5 Series LWB: Powertrain Options and Expected Price
On the powertrain front, we anticipate the German luxury carmaker will first offer the vehicle in the 520d and 520i configurations, but later on, it might also release the 530d and 530i in M-Sport configurations. All powertrain options will be available with an eight-speed AT with ZF sourcing to drive the back wheels. Only the upcoming M5 (scheduled to launch in 2025) is anticipated to come with xDrive. The new 5 Series from BMW will likely retail for between Rs 85 lakh and Rs 1 crore. In the Indian market, it will go up against the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz E-Class, and Audi A6.
