Starting 2025, Bentley will add a new fully-electric model every year for five years
At its Beyond100 press conference, Bentley laid out a plan for its all-electric future, which is set to be realised in 2030. Yes, in eight years, the entire Bentley line-up will consist of battery electric vehicles. However, the transition will begin sooner than you might think.
For starters, Bentley will introduce a lot more plug-in hybrid models – five in 2022 alone – while its entire range will get plug-in hybrid variants by 2024. Bentley’s first fully-electric series-production model will follow a year later in 2025, and after that, there will be an all-electric model added every year until 2030.
To facilitate this, Bentley is making a 2.5 billion GBP (Rs 25,251 crore) investment to rejig the entire production process for electric vehicles, which will be developed and manufactured at its factory in Crewe.
A part of the investment will go into converting the factory into a ‘Dream Factory’, which will include cutting-edge technology, sustainable production methods, and a more flexible production process, which will do away with a conveyor belt.
Adrian Hallmark, Chairman and CEO of Bentley Motors, said, 'This latest announcement regarding Bentley’s Beyond100 plan confirms the initiation of a major transformative phase in the company’s long and illustrious history. The world is changing, and we need to play our part in neutralising our environmental impact. That means delivering on our aim to be end-to-end carbon neutral by 2030 and reaffirming our role as the leader in sustainable luxury mobility.'
Of course, Bentley isn’t the first carmaker to announce its plans to go fully electric by the next decade, but the Beyond100 strategy is definitely one of the most comprehensive in the super-luxury space, in which Bentley operates.
