Bentley has created performance-focused S versions of its V8-powered Continental GT and GTC models and the company made the public debut of both these cars at the Frankfurt motor show.
The all-wheel-drive Continental GT and GTC V8 S models pack in a punch of a 521bhp with Bentley’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine which is 21bhp more than the standard V8. All that extra power propels GT from 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds and the GTC does the same in 4.5 seconds.
The result is a drop in the GT V8’s 0-100kph time by 0.3sec to 4.3sec, and that of the Continental GTC by 0.2sec to 4.5sec. It also has an effect on the top speed of the car as the both have become faster by 6km/h - 308 kmp/h for the Coupe and 307.3 km/h for the Convertible.
The close-ratio eight-speed automatic gearbox’s drive selector in both the cars makes for improvement in throttle response and the shifts are faster too.
The exterior ses changes like a front splitter, rear diffuser and side sills but it is the modifications to the chassis that help the GT and the GTC achieve improved performance. The sports suspension sits 10mm lower, and the front spring rates have been increased by 45 percent and the rears by 33 percent over the standard car. A reworked steering system makes for sharper responses and revisions to the ESC system allow greater wheel slip before it intervenes. For Bentley both the GT and the GTC V8S are all about improvements and might we say all of them are spot on!
