The Suzuki Baleno has received a three and a four star safety rating following the crash test that conducted by EuroNCAP.

EuroNCAP has just awarded the Suzuki Baleno with a 3-star stafety rating for the standard trim car and a 4-star rating for its optional safety pack equipped variant. The Baleno was also testing in the NCAP’s newly introduced ‘Full Width Frontal Impact Test’.

The Baleno is the first car that received a dual rating from EuroNCAP. The dual ratings system for a single car was introduced to increase awareness to consumers. It is in vision to provide a better understanding to car buyers the benefits of additional safety equipment on their cars.

The optional safety equipment on the 4 start rated Baleno includes features like radar brake support with Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) city and Inter-urban system. While the standard model was only equipped with seatbelt reminder as safety assist. The AEB on the optional top trim helped the car receive the 4-star rating.

The optional speed assistance system was not included in the test as it is not a part of the Radar Brake package. The Baleno is sold in India by Maruti Suzuki through their premium NEXA channel. The Baleno’s specced for India only gets ABS with dual airbags as standard as opposed to six- airbags fitted to the standard European –spec car. Adding the exact same features onto the car specced for India will inevitably require the price of the car to be hiked. While the airbags can be introduced as standard for India as well, Radar Brake Support system cannot be introduced in India due to the ban on radar guided features on cars in the country.
