Nissan has garnered attention at the ongoing Auto Shanghai with its Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid pickup. The PHEV is part of the nine New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) planned for launch in the Chinese market by the summer of 2027. Built on the Nissan Dongfeng Z9 platform revealed earlier this year, the Frontier Pro is distinct from the North American Frontier Pro-X/Pro-4X models. In addition to the eye-catching pickup, Nissan unveiled the all-new Dongfeng Nissan N7 sedan at the event. The all-electric sedan has an impressive drag coefficient of just 0.208, making it exceptionally aerodynamic. It is packed with advanced intelligent technology, promising a matchless driving experience and unparalleled comfort for both the driver and passengers. For now, let’s explore the key features and specifications of the pickup.
Nissan Frontier Pro Pickup: Design and Dimensions

The PHEV pickup boasts a powerful and striking appearance, with its unique headlight signatures, glowing Nissan logo, extra horizontal LEDs on the tailgate, new taillight graphics, and a sturdy front bumper. It features a trio of horizontal LEDs above the emblem, echoing the classic hood vents from the 1980s Nissan D21 Hardbody. The Frontier has a substantial side protection for a tougher look, and is equipped with 18-inch wheels (across all the variants).

The cabin’s streamlined two-spoke steering wheel adds to the sophisticated aesthetic, while practical elements like the electronically retractable bed cover boost utility. One of its standout features is the advanced vehicle-to-load (V2L) system, which turns the truck into a mobile power hub.
Nissan Frontier Pro Pickup: Powertrain
The Nissan Frontier Pro uses a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine with a high-output electric motor seamlessly integrated into the transmission. This plug-in hybrid system churns out 402bhp of power and 800Nm of peak torque.
