Auto Expo 2023: MG Motor India unveiled the Mifa 9 electric MPV at its booth at the latest edition of the Auto Expo in India. While it has been showcased in India under the Morris Garages brand, it is offered in global markets under the SAIC-owned Maxus brand. This year's Auto Expo featured leading automotive brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, MG, Kia, BYD, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, and Tata Motors. However, several prominent players, like BMW, Skoda, Volkswagen, Audi, and Mercedes-Benz, decided to stay away from the event. Furthermore, no major two-wheeler manufacturer was present at the Auto Expo this year.
Coming to the electric MPV, Mifa stands for Maximum, Intelligent, Friendly, and Artistic. The Mifa 9 is bigger than the Kia Carnival – it is 5,270mm in length, 2,000mm in width, and 1,840mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,200mm.
The MG Mifa 9, which sits at the top of the line-up, has four captain chairs with motorised adjustability for the centre and third row because of its large footprint. In the lower variants, the third row gets a bench-style arrangement instead of captain seats, allowing it to accommodate seven passengers instead of six. The Mifa 9's front end includes a two-spoke steering wheel and a large touchscreen, which occupies the whole width of the dashboard.

The Mifa 9 sports some visually arresting design features despite having the same boxy body as standard MPVs. It has a huge air dam lower down, considerable amounts of chrome trim up front, and a thin LED Daytime Running Lamp (DRL), which runs across the width of the car. The window frames on both sides and the diffuser at the back are embellished with chrome. The MPV's width-spanning taillight is an exact replica of the front LED DRLs.

The MG Mifa 9's electric motor has a maximum speed of 180km/h and can produce 245bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque. The Mifa 9's integrated 90kWh battery provides it with a combined WLTP-certified range of up to 440 kilometres. Although it has been displayed in India, MG has not yet disclosed any plans to introduce the electric MPV in our market. At the recent auto show, MG also launched the updated Hector and Hector Plus SUVs.
