Auto Expo 2023: Hyundai Motor India has finally launched the much-anticipated Ioniq 5 EV crossover in India. The brand-new EV boasts a price tag of Rs 44.95 lakh (ex-showroom). The price is for first 500 units only. The Ioniq 5 EV had already been showcased in the country and bookings for the same commenced at a token amount of Rs 1 lakh in December 2022. The new Ioniq 5 will be Hyundai's second fully electric vehicle in India, following the Kona EV, and is technically identical to the Kia EV 6 that is already on sale in the Indian market. The exterior colour options available for the Hyundai Ioniq 5 are Gravity Gold Matte, Optic White, and Midnight Black Pearl. Hyundai Motor is also expected to showcase the Nexo fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) SUV at the biennial auto show.

Hyundai was able to maximise interior space with the development of the Ioniq 5 using the E-GMP platform. Additionally, the car uses eco-friendly materials at a number of touchpoints. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is poised to redefine the electric mobility lifestyle unlike anything seen before by fusing this BEV's strong performance capability with an ultra-fast charging capability of 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes (using a 350kw DC charger) and cutting-edge solutions like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L): Inside and Outside and Hyundai SmartSense (Level 2 ADAS).

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a distinct exterior design with clean and sharp lines, as well as features that give this BEV a distinct SUV shape. The unique Parametric Pixel LED Headlamps define the car's visage, reflecting the striking pixel character, a design influence for this BEV. The clamshell hood is smooth and seamless, and the car has an Active air flap (AAF) that increases aerodynamics when closed and cools vehicle parts when opened. The Ioniq 5's flanks are defined by Z-shaped side character lines, and the major lure is the 20-inch parametric pixel design alloy wheels, which are also touted to help the car's aerodynamic efficiency. The flush door handles that automatically pop out when the driver is close by may also be seen from here. The parametric pixel design is continued at the back with the parametric pixel LED tail lamps. A sporty touch is provided by the rear spoiler with an LED high-mount stop light (HMSL).

The Ioniq 5 features Dark pebble grey interiors and eco-processed leather seat upholstery. The dashboard and door have soft-touch materials, while the armrest, seat cushions, and steering wheel have a pixel design. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 has a 12.3-inch touchscreen Infotainment system and a Bose sound system with eight speakers that can play six different types of ambient noises from nature. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster next to it displays all of the required information to the driver. The car has a remarkable 3000mm wheelbase, which provides a large cabin area for the passengers. The flat floor, thin cockpit design, sliding centre console, and sliding glove box give it a futuristic appearance.

It can be charged from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger, however, there are only a few of these chargers across India. The manufacturer claims that the Ioniq 5 EV has a range of 631 kilometres on a single charge. The Ioniq 5 also includes Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which allows the car to deliver up to 3.6kW of power output. The V2L port is found beneath the second-row seats. Another V2L port can be found on the vehicle's exterior near the charging port. Customers can use a converter to power electric equipment such as laptops, phones, and other gadgets.
