Powered by a 4.0-litre V8 mild-hybrid, the Audi SQ8 develops 435 horses and is capable of doing the 0-100km/h dash in just 4.8 seconds. The SQ8 will sit at the top as Audi’s flagship SUV
Subsequent to the official unveiling of the Q8 SUV last year, Audi has now taken the wraps off its performance-centric iteration – the SQ8. This flagship SUV from the Ingolstadt-based carmaker comes with 4.0-litre V8 heart that is assisted by two turbochargers. Interestingly, the car automatically turns off one turbo charger at low speeds. The SQ8 also comes paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system which is capable of producing 11 horses under braking. This allows the SQ8 to cruise for up to 40 seconds at speeds between 55-160km/h without the engine being active. As far as power and torque are concerned, the SQ8 makes 429bhp and an impressive 900Nm. The engine comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With all this power and torque sent to all four wheels, the car can do the 0-100km/h dash in 4.8 seconds and record a top speed of 250km/h.
To endow the SQ8 with impressive dynamics, Audi has fitted it with adaptive air suspension. This allows the drive to adjust the ride height by up to 90mm. Additionally, it also comes with active roll stabilisation to limit lateral movement. Audi also has all-wheel steering on the options list.
Based on Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo platform, the Audi SQ8 looks sportier than the Q8 without drifting apart from the model’s core design cues. Up front, it has been fitted with a new grille with a matte silver frame, in either side of which are LED headlights. Other design highlights include revamped air intakes, aluminium finishes ORVMs, quad exhausts and matte black diffuser at the rear. The sporty nature continues on the inside too, with Alcantara upholstery, S embossed seats, a twin touchscreen setup just like the Q8 and of course, Audi’s Virtual Cockpit.
Audi hasn’t announced if the SQ8 will make its way to India as yet.
