Posting record sales in January, Volkswagen owned Audi sold 1,37,700 cars in Januray whereas Mercedes reported 1,25,865 sales.
Volkswagen owned Audi reported a 10% increase in its sales figures for the month of January this year. The growth can be attributed to increase in demand in markets like China and the United States. Markets in China, Germany and United States reported a growth in double-digits.
In China, the growth was of 15%, and in Europe, it was 4.7% despite Audi seeing a 13% fall in the Russian market. Audi also is expected to post more gains this year thanks to the new A3 and revamped TT.
Commenting on the phenomenal sales figures, a research firm – HIS Automotive – said that this gap between Audi and Mercedes can stretch up to 1,78,000 cars by 2020 from 1,36,000 cars last year.
Due to unavailability of data from BMW, the firm also speculated that the gap between Audi and BMW might increase to 92,000 this year from 69,000 last year.
Commenting on the growth, Luca de Meo, Audi sales chief said, “We have made a good start to the year although global economic uncertainties remain considerable.”
