Audi’s next big thing is the e-tron GT, which will be launched in the coming weeks and expectedly at a very high price point, for the e-tron GT will be sold here via the CBU route.

Audi recently launched the RS 5 Sportback in India for Rs 1.04 Crore (ex-showroom). The German premium carmaker has now announced that the next product for India will be the Audi e-tron GT, which will be launched on September 22.

The four-door sports coupe will likely be launched in two variants – the e-tron GT Quattro and the RS e-tron GT. While the RS is the more powerful one, both variants have the same (claimed) range of 488km. Audi has managed to balance the range in the RS variant, despite the higher power output by offering a larger (93.4kWh) battery pack. The e-tron GT Quattro, on the other hand, gets an 83.7kWh battery capacity.

Both variants get an electric motor both at the front and the rear axle and an all-wheel-drive setup. The e-tron GT Quattro puts out 469bhp and 630Nm, and there is a reserve of 50bhp and 10Nm, should the driver require more boost. The RS e-tron GT makes 590bhp and 830Nm, with a boost of 46bhp.

The Audi e-tron GT is likely to cost upward of Rs 2 crore (ex-showroom). The new all-electric sports saloon will create a niche of its own and will have no rivals in the Indian market. The Porsche Taycan – which shares the underpinnings with the Audi e-tron GT – is expected to be launched in India by mid-2022, which will be the key rival to the upcoming Audi e-tron GT.
