Aston Martin partnered with Lucid, a US-based electric vehicle startup, to access its powertrain components and battery technology for future EVs. In exchange for battery technology and electric powertrain parts, Aston Martin will offer new shares to Lucid and pay $232 million in cash. Aside from this, the automaker confirmed the continued availability of Mercedes-Benz technologies, such as electrical designs and powertrains, including internal combustion and electric. The Lucid components will serve as the foundation for Aston's new battery-electric vehicle platform, which will support several models, including an electrified hypercar, sports car, GT, and SUV. According to Aston Martin, its model lines will have electrified powertrain options by 2026. Additionally, going forward with the sustainability goals, it will make its core range fully electrified by 2030.

Aston Martin & Lucid Partnership
It is not new for manufacturers to source components and technologies from third parties to make their products. In a recent development, Aston Martin has allied with Lucid to use its powertrain components and battery technology. Now, future EV models from Aston Martin will run on batteries provided by US-based EV startup Lucid. Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman, of Aston Martin commented on the partnership, and said, "The supply agreement with Lucid is a game changer for the future EV-led growth of Aston Martin''.
He also added, "Based on our strategy and requirements, we selected Lucid, gaining access to the industry's highest performance and most innovative technologies for our future BEV products."
Under the agreement, Aston Martin will now have access to both the Wunderbox (the onboard charging unit) and Lucid's twin-motor drive unit, which uses two radial flux electric motors, as well as, battery technology. Aston Martin claims that the new collaboration will allow it to develop a single, customized BEV platform suited for all upcoming products, from hypercars to sports cars and SUVs.

As mentioned, By 2026, all new Aston Martin model lines will offer an electrified powertrain option. Additionally, the firm has a long-term goal of making its core range fully electric by 2030. The new alliance is not only collaboration that Aston Martin has inked for sourcing technologies. The firm has been procuring several internal combustion engines from Mercedes-AMG for many years.

In its official statement, the corporation has shared that for current and forthcoming generations of Aston Martin vehicles, including internal combustion engine, hybrid, and electric vehicles, Mercedes-Benz will continue to render access to Aston Martin to a range of technologies, comprising powertrain and electric/electronic architectures. According to Aston Martin, the future electrified models supported with Lucid's powertrain technology and advanced Mercedes-Benz electronic architecture will offer class-leading performance.
