Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing reveal the outcome of their collaborative project - AM-RB 001. Built for the road but can go around a racetrack as quick as a Le Mans prototype!
Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing have joined forces and, lo and behold, the outcome of their combined efforts – the AM-RB 001. Billed as a race-car meant for the road, the project to develop this awe-inspiring hypercar was led by Aston Martin’s chief creative officer, Marek Reichman, and Red Bull Racing’s Formula 1 design genius, Adrian Newey.
The AM-RB 001 is headlined by a mid-mounted naturally aspirated V12 and lightweight carbon-fibre body along with some wicked aerodynamics aids, which are all thanks to Newey. While Aston Martin is keeping the specifications of the hypercar close to its chest for the moment, the company is quite vocal about its performance. It says that the AM-RB 001 will have a power-to-weight ratio of 1:1. Some reports claim the hypercar to weigh below the 1 tonne mark, so expect its horsepower count in the ballpark of 900bhp. And unlike most of the current crop of hypercars, this one is not a hybrid powertrain with electric motors bolted for assistance - it’s a free-revving and an all new V12!
Now coming to its design – the new hypercar is no doubt a breathtaking piece of automotive art, but as per its makers, the AM-RB 001 is an “unprecedented fusion” of form and function. Aston Martin says that Newey worked on the design in such a way that the maximum downforce is generated through underfloor aerodynamics, meaning his work did not intervene with Reichman's design, allowing him to create a dramatic bodywork. A win-win situation for both the camps.
According to Aston Martin and Red Bull Racing, the AM-RB 001 is a race car that is meant for the road like no other! The company will offer it in two versions – a road-car and a track-only thoroughbred. The latter is going to be as fast as an LMP1 Le Mans prototype racer around a track, claims Aston Martin!
As you’d have already guessed, the AM-RM 001 is a super special piece of machinery and, as a result, it will be produced in very limited numbers. Aston Martin suggests that the total volume will be in between 99 and 150 units including all the prototypes and 25 track-only versions. Customer deliveries will commence in 2018. Prices have not be revealed as yet, but it’s going to be incredibly expensive!
