Aston Martin officially unveiled the Lagonda Taraf in Dubai. This is the super sedan's first public display. Initially, Aston Martin wanted to sell a limited number of Lagonda saloons exclusively to Middle Eastern buyers only, but now the marque car maker is seriously considering selling the Lagonda worldwide.
At the event, Aston CEO Dr Andy Palmer announced that the car will be branded as the ‘Lagonda Taraf’, which translates to ‘ultimate luxury’, in the Middle East. It will arrive in 2015 with a price tag reportedly in excess of £400,000. Dr Palmer also said, “It is clear from the initial reaction to the car that interest from around the world is extremely high and I can confirm today that we are also evaluating the opportunity to offer this Lagonda in other markets.”
Aston Martin originally planned to build 100 Lagonda sedans then sell them to a select group of Middle Eastern customers on an invitation-only basis, but the car may soon be made available to buyers around the world.
Aston Martin still has not revealed the Lagonda's powerplant specifications, but it is understood that it will be powered by a 5.9-litre V12, currently in Rapide S. It delivers 550bhp and does 0 to 100 km/h under 5 seconds. So expect the Lagonda to be more powerful and will have a top speed in excess of 300 km/h. What is revealed is that the power will be sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox.
