One of the oldest aides of Anna Hazare from the beginning of the agitation for the Jan Lokpal Bill, an eight-year-old Mahindra Scorpio, has been sold off for Rs. 9,11,000. The car was sold to one Mr. Atul Lokhande after an auction where 15 people participated. The car was owned by the trust which governs the funds of Mr. Hazare.
According to the sources, Mr. Hazare is suffering from acute back pain and travelling in the Scorpio was adding more to it. The money generated from the auction will, as assumed, will be used to buy a more comfortable car preferably a Toyota Innova.
According to a statement circulated by the aides of Anna Hazare, “Using this vehicle, Anna travelled length and breadth of the country and successfully pioneered many a movement. It was this vehicle which witnessed Annaji’s lonely yet successful fight against the corrupt ministers in 2007 and 2009; and the agitation against multi-crore scam in co-operative banks. This is the same vehicle, which took Anna from place to place when he headed the nationwide Jan Lokpal movement. In 2011, the car was attacked by Congress workers in Nagpur when Annaji was gearing up for anti-corruption movement.”
After the payment and other formalities were done, Anna Hazare himself handed over the key of the Scorpio to the new owner.
