With the recent brochure leak of the upcoming Suzuki Swift for the Japanese Domestic Market, we give you some details of what you can expect from Suzuki's third generation Swift destined for our market in 2017. Design
Staying true to its elements from the previous generation, the all new Swift will remain quite similar in terms of proportions, but the styling will see a complete overhaul. The headlamps, the front grille and the front bumper design is new, which will give the car an all new front end. At the rear, the tail lamps have been revised, and so has the rear bumper. The profile of the car remains similar, while the rear door handle has been moved to the C-pillar. This element also separates the roof from the rest of the body with its black panel on the C-pillar which suggests that for the Indian market, the Swift may also get a dual tone paint scheme which is offered on the top variant of the Vitara Brezza.
Dimensions
The new Maruti Swift will be 3,840mm long, 1,695mm wide and 1,500mm tall. The wheelbase has been set at 2,450mm and it has a ground clearance of up to 145mm. The size of the fuel tank is 37 litres.
Engine & Transmission
Powertrain options in the new Swift for the Indian market are likely to remain the same as the current generation. A 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine and a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbo-diesel engine will be offered. However, both engines may receive some tuning and enhancements to deliver better performance and mileage. A mild hybrid model like the CIAZ is also likely to be offered in India for the diesel car. An RS version of the Swift could also see a 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol BoosterJet engine being sold in India as well.
All models will as standard with a 5-speed manual gearbox with some variants quipped with an option of an automatic CVT transmission as well. For the Japanese and international markets, an AWD version will also be offered, but it is unlikely that this would be offered in India.
Features
Features from the JDM Swift is likely to differ from the offerings that will be sold in India. Automatic LED headlamps with halogen fog lamps, keyless entry and 16-inch wheels are likely to be offered in exterior package in India. The Swift RS would also get a sportier body kit.
The interior would get a dashboard that is likely to be custom built for the Indian market. A new multi-function steering wheel in addition to the touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto with Voice Command and optional navigation will be available. The new Swift would feature automatic climate control with engine start / stop, electronically adjustable and power folding ORVMs, and a multi-colour TFT screen in the instrument cluster.
Safety
Due to upcoming mandatory safety regulations, Maruti is likely to offer the new Swift with a host of safety features as standard. Dual airbags with ABS and EBD along with rear parking sensors will be standard. However international models get up to seven airbags. A reverse parking assist camera is also likely to be offered with the new car.
Expected price and launch date
The new Maruti Suzuki Swift has not been officially revealed as yet. But due to its popularity in India, it will arrive soon after. We expect the new Swift to be launch in India sometime within the second or third quarter of 2017. Pricing will definitely be competitive from Maruti’s side, we expect the prices to remain similar to the current car, all though with a slight premium for higher trim levels. The current generation Maruti Swift is priced between Rs. 4.76 lakh to Rs. 7.44 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
