Alfa Romeo’s 4C Spider is the latest in the slew of cars that will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
The convertible version of Italian brand’s mid-engined sports car, the 4C, is powered by the same 240bhp, turbocharged four-cylinder engine which produces 350Nm of torque, channeled to the rear wheels through a twin clutch suspension.
Aesthetically, however, there are a couples of changes with the 4C Spider featuring a more pronounced rear end and a hatchback like engine cover.
Extensive use of carbon fibre means the dry weight of car stands at just 940 kgs, making its engine even more powerful. In fact, it does 0 to 100km/h in just 4.5 seconds - that’s pure sportscar territory.
Fiat-Chrysler plans to re-establish Alfa Romeo in the sportscar market and will use its IPO proceeds in the revival of this iconic brand. It also plans to spin-off Ferrari into a separate company, and lift the 7,000 units per year cap.
