Jaguar XE gets SVO treatment to become the brand's most extreme performance car, ever!
Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) is at it again. This time, however, the skunkworks of SVO have gone a little too far, we’ve to say. They have taken the most affordable car from the range – the XE that is – and turned it into the brand's most powerful car, ever!
Billed as the XE SV Project 8, the production of the high-performance sedan will be limited to just 300 units, thereby, making it the second “Collector’s Edition” vehicle from the SVO department after the F-Type Project 7. All the cars will be hand-assembled at SVO’s technical base in Coventry.
The real deal of the XE SV Project 8 lies under the bonnet. That’s because it features the firm’s big supercharged 5.0-litre V8 lump that develops 591bhp – a full 25bhp more than the F-Type Project 7. Unlike the standard XE, though, power reserves will be sent to all four wheels via an updated eight-speed automatic transmission. Jaguar hasn’t revealed the performance figures as of now, but given the firepower it packs, you can already guess that it will do 0-100km/h in a sub-4 second time.
As is the case with every new performance car these days, the SVO has been developed and tested extensively at the Nurburgring. In fact, the pictures that you see here come from the racetrack only. It's also pretty evident that SVO engineers have made some serious aero improvements – for instance, check the front splitter, large air intakes, that huge rear wing and the rear diffuser.
Jaguar will reveal full specifications of the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 on June 28, 2017, following which the car will make its debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.
