The Citroen C4 hatchback and C4 X saloon have undergone striking transformations, reflecting the latest brand identity that Citroen introduced with the new C3 and e-C3. Both vehicles are built on a common platform shared with other Stellantis cars, positioning them against competitors like the Peugeot 2008 and Vauxhall Mokka. The e-C4 faces competition from the Hyundai Kona Electric and Renault Mégane E-Tech, while hybrid buyers may consider options like the Renault Arkana or Toyota C-HR. At the Paris Motor Show, Citroen showcased its proactive approach with a lineup of new and refreshed models, including the C5 Aircross SUV and the updated Ami Buggy Vision concepts.

The refreshed models feature intricate front-end styling, showcasing the new Citroen chevron badge, which is 160mm tall and positioned within a vertical oval frame. They also include a revised LED daytime running light signature similar to that of the C3. The front bumper has been updated with minimal black plastic, a new grille pattern, and a faux skid plate, while the side cladding has been adjusted to create the appearance of a longer vehicle. The chrome accents have been removed, and Citroen has introduced customisable ‘colour clips’ from the C3 to the front and sides, along with two new exterior shades: Manhattan Green and Eclipse Blue. The alloys also gain a new design. The back end of the C4 has been streamlined, sporting lower-mounted tail lights to enhance the car’s width and stability on the road. Light stripes are integrated into the black bar with ‘Citroen’ branding. Meanwhile, the C4 X retains the same rear design as the previous model.

The powertrain options comprise mild-hybrid and fully electric configurations with an ICE-only variant available in select markets. The mild-hybrid turbocharged 1.2-litre unit offers two power outputs: 99bhp or 134bhp, with an additional 28.6bhp provided by the electric motor integrated into the six-speed automatic transmission. The existing fully electric powertrains deliver either 134bhp or 154bhp, with power sent to the front wheels. The 50kWh battery in the former provides a WLTP range of 355/360 km, while the larger 54kWh battery in the more powerful EV offers a range of 415/425 km, depending on the body style.

Both models support 100 kW fast charging, allowing for a range increase of about 10km/min and reaching an 80% charge in under 30 minutes. Additionally, Citroen's e-ROUTES app assists drivers in planning their trips and locating charging stations, alleviating range anxiety.

The refreshed Citroen C4 and C4 X will likely arrive at European dealerships in early 2025. Citroen has not announced the pricing for the facelifted cars yet, but the current-gen models begin at just under £20,000 (approximately Rs 21.98 lakh), with the electric variant priced at around £30,000 (roughly Rs 32.97 lakh). While we anticipate a modest increase in the prices for the new models, they are expected to remain within a similar range.
