The popular Swift hatchback is about to get a facelift, and Maruti Suzuki plans to introduce it in India next month. Interestingly, the Japan NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) crash test results for the fourth-gen hatchback are out. The car has received a 4-star safety rating with a 99% score. The hatchback offered excellent occupant protection in frontal and side crashes, scoring 81% (81.10 points out of 100) in collision safety performance. It performed better in the automatic accident emergency call system (score of 100%) and preventative safety performance (score of 99%). Notably, the new-generation Suzuki Swift earned an overall score of 177.80 out of 197 points (90%).
2024 Suzuki Swift: JNCAP Crash Test Results
The most recent Suzuki Swift model went through a series of rigorous crash tests in Japan, earning an impressive 4-star safety rating. These tests were conducted at speeds ranging from 50 to 60km/h. After evaluating the ADAS capabilities, the car was evaluated for frontal and front-side crashes at speeds of 55 and 64km/h, respectively. Finally, the new Swift underwent a side impact test. In all of these tests, the hatchback's front was damaged; nonetheless, the pillars appeared to be undamaged.
With an outstanding 99% score in preventive safety measures, the hatchback performed exceptionally well. Furthermore, it received a perfect score of 100% for its automatic accident emergency call system. This technology improves overall emergency preparedness and provides post-collision support for occupants by guaranteeing prompt reaction and help in the case of an accident. The results, which were made public by Japanese safety regulators, demonstrate the car's strong safety features and cutting-edge technologies that reduce the chance of collision and safeguard the occupants.
2024 Japan-Spec Suzuki Swift: Safety Tech
For those unaware, the 2024 iteration of the Japan-spec Swift has the ADAS suite installed. It offers safety technologies like adaptive cruise control, a driver monitoring system, adaptive high beam assist, lane keep assist, dual sensor brake support, and road sign recognition. The car also has a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert. When it gets to India, the all-new Swift will be lacking in many capabilities, including ADAS. However, the interior and exterior design elements of the car are expected to be identical to those of the global-spec model.
2024 Suzuki Swift: Powertrain Options
Bharat NCAP will crash-test the new Swift in India, and its safety rating may differ from that of the Japan-spec version. The hatch will also miss out on the strong hybrid technology seen in its global equivalent. A new three-cylinder petrol engine powers the model to produce 82bhp of maximum power and 112Nm of peak torque.
The acceleration time from 0 to 100km/h is reduced by 5% to 12.5 seconds for the manual model and 11.9 seconds for the optional CVT. However, the older 1.2-litre, four-cylinder unit that produces 89bhp and 113Nm, is expected to be retained in the India-spec version.
