Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupe, the latest model in its stable of high-performance vehicles. Shortly after the all-new CLE made its debut, the German luxury car manufacturer dropped the AMG E-class coupe's body shape for the newest generation of the C and E, so the high-performance two-door coupe practically replaced it. The CLE 53, which is bigger than a C-class's wheelbase when it comes to dimensions, is a fitting progression from the C 43 AMG sedan. As far as the model's launch timeline is concerned, a formal release date for the Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe has not yet been announced by the brand, but more information on the same is expected to surface soon. Meanwhile, here's all that you need to know about the new Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe.

Speaking of design, with a more aggressive aero kit, the AMG aesthetically expands upon the CLE Coupe's sporty exterior appearance. Up front, a more muscular front bumper coexists with the iconic AMG Panamericana grille. New vents are located directly beneath the front wheel arches and the AMG CLE's standard 19-inch AMG wheels can be modified to 20-inch. Other visual components constitute sportier side sills, a boot lip spoiler, quad exhaust tips, and an aggressive rear bumper. Further customisation can be achieved with the firm's additional packages, which include the AMG Optics, AMG Night, and AMG Carbon kits.

2024 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe: Engine and Transmission

In terms of mechanicals, Mercedes has improved its 3.0-litre M 256 inline six-cylinder turbo-petrol engine, now known as the M 256M, and placed it under the bonnet. This unit is good enough to crank out 442bhp of peak power at 6,100rpm and 560Nm of maximum torque at 5,800rpm. A mild hybrid system with an integrated starter generator (ISG) offers additional support. In situations like stop-and-go city traffic, where running the engine alone would be inefficient, the ISG kicks in to fill in the power gaps. It offers short-term performance enhancements of up to 22bhp and 205Nm. A nine-speed torque converter transmission feeds a rear-biased 4WD system that can accelerate from a standstill to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds and up to an electronically limited maximum speed of 250km/h.

The MBUX infotainment system is the focal point of the cabin layout. All of the features found in the standard CLE are also available in the AMG model, including the 12.3-inch digital driver display and the 11.9-inch central touchscreen, which are now equipped with AMG-specific graphics. Several enhancements include sportier seats, an AMG steering wheel, and AMG-specific trims and upholstery options. Red contrasting stitching highlights the seats' Artico man-made leather/Black Microcut microfibre upholstery. Nappa leather is an additional option that can be requested. For improved lateral support, an AMG Performance seat is a possible option.

Five driving modes are available through the AMG dynamic select function: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. By pressing the "M" button, the driver can switch to manual mode and use the shift paddles to change gears. Depending on the driving scenario, the speed-sensitive steering wheel adjusts feedback and resistance, becoming heavier at high speeds and less so during low-speed manoeuvres. The vehicle's footprint is minimised by the 2.5-degree rear-wheel steering system, which also reduces steering effort and turning radius.

The brakes have also been updated, including 360mm discs with single-piston floating callipers at the back and internally ventilated 370mm discs with four-piston fixed calipers up front. The CLE is equipped with steel springs and adjustable dampers as standard, allowing the driver to switch between three ride modes: Comfort, Sport, and Sport+.

The AMG Dynamic Plus, an additional package that comes with sportier gear including a Race driving program with Drift Mode, is also accessible. The AMG badging and red paint job on the 4-piston brake callipers highlight the CLE 53's ability to stop quickly.
