2024 BYD Atto 3 vs MG ZS EV Spec Comparison: Which is Better?

Here's how the recently updated BYD Atto 3 stacks up against the MG ZS EV on different parameters, including powertrain, dimensions, and features.

BYD (Build Your Dreams) recently refreshed the Atto 3 model range in India, making the SUV more affordable than before. The electric SUV was previously offered in a single fully loaded variant. However, it is now available in three different variants – Dynamic, Premium, and Superior, priced at Rs 24.99 lakh, Rs 29.85 lakh, and Rs 33.99 lakh, respectively. With the new entry-level trim featuring a 49.92kWh battery, the SUV is now Rs 9 lakh cheaper than the previous model. It is also in direct competition with the MG ZS EV, which has a comparable battery. Let's compare the two models to determine which one is the more suitable option.

Battery-wise, the base Dynamic variant gets a new 49.92kWh battery unit, while the Premium and Superior variants get the previously available larger 60.48kWh unit. The former offers a range of 468 kilometres on a single charge, while the latter two offer a range of 521 kilometres. The Dynamic can go from 0 to 100km/h in 7.9 seconds, but the Premium and Superior can do the same in 7.3 seconds. All models feature the same single front-axle electric motor, which produces 201bhp and 310Nm.

The MG ZS EV, on the other hand, only has one battery option: a 50.3kWh unit. Its performance figures, 174bhp, and 280Nm, are a bit lower than those of its Chinese counterpart. The MG car boasts a range of up to 461 kilometres, which is also a little less than the entry-level BYD model.

For rapid charging from 0% to 80% in just 50 minutes, the Atto 3 comes with an 80 kW DC fast charger for higher-end versions and a 70 kW DC fast charger for the entry-level model. In comparison, the ZS EV gets a 50 kW DC fast charging option, which takes 60 minutes to accomplish the same task. 

The Atto 3 can be fully charged with an AC charger in 8 hours for the base model and up to 10 hours for the higher-spec models. The MG car requires around 9 hours to be fully charged with an AC charger.

The two cars from different manufacturers offer some similar features, like a 6-way power adjustable driver seat, a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, a push start/stop button, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), ADAS, and a 360-degree camera. However, the Atto 3 outperforms the ZS EV with a larger 12.8-inch touchscreen, a 4-way adjustable front passenger seat, and an 8-speaker sound system.

The ZS EV, however, benefits from a larger 7-inch digital driver's display, height-adjustable headrests for all seats, and connected car tech.

The Atto 3 is 132mm long and 66mm broad than its rival. Although the BYD EV's wheelbase is 135mm longer than that of the ZS EV, it is shorter by 34mm in height.

2024 BYD Atto 3 vs MG ZS EV: Price 

In terms of price, the Atto 3 costs between Rs 24.99 lakh and Rs 33.99 lakh, while the ZS EV ranges between Rs 18.98 lakh and Rs 25.44 lakh. The latter with a reduced asking price is more affordable than BYD SUV's base variant by Rs 6 lakh.
