Soon after a number of leaked patent sketches clearly showed the external styling of the 2024 5 Series Touring, the German luxury carmaker, BMW released the first official teaser for the upcoming model. Buyers in Europe, Japan, and Taiwan will be the only ones able to purchase the more efficient 5-Series and i5 when it debuts in the spring of 2024. The BMW 5 Series Touring has been codenamed G61. The teaser image of the car shared by the brand shows the silhouette and LED lighting signature of the midsize estate. Unsurprisingly, the front portion of the bodywork is identical to that of the sedan, but the rear profile has been significantly revamped, providing the utility of an upright tail and presenting a low-slung option to SUVs. Notably, for the first time, the 5 Series Touring will be available in battery-powered i5 and twin-turbo V8 M5 models. Here's everything we know about BMW's all-new 5 Series Touring so far.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring: Exterior and Interior Layout

The teaser image makes clear that the new model's taillights are different from those on the sedan and more similar to the smaller 3 Series Touring. We anticipate the back glass to slide open independently from the tailgate, a distinguishing characteristic of the auto major's wagons over the years, even though it is not visible in the shared teaser. Coming to the front profile, you may find simple faux kidney grilles and smaller, more contemporary headlights on the BMW 5 Series and the i5 Touring. The grilles are substituted with black plastic panels, just like those on the i4 and the iX. However, instead of having the iX's unique self-healing film, expect the i5's grille panels to look more like the i4's. It further receives the same set of flush-style door handles as the i4 and a stylish Hofmeister Kink along the side of the car.

It will presumably replicate the saloon's cabin as well, which is characterised by a sizable, slightly curved driver and infotainment display screen and a straightforward, uncluttered dashboard design. Although the size of the trunk hasn't been officially confirmed, it's typically reasonable to assume that it will stand somewhere around the 570 litres of the current model with the rear seats folded up.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring: Multiple Powertrain Options

Speaking of the available powertrain options, the manufacturer has confirmed that the engine range of the 5 Series Touring will be identical to the sedan version. The CLAR-based model will therefore provide an extensive selection of petrol, mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and all-electric (i5 Touring) options.

The M5 Touring, which is said to be powered by a plug-in hybrid V8 from XM, will be at the apex of the model lineup when it comes to performance and aesthetic approach. It is expected to churn out a maximum power output of 780bhp. Due to a wide bodykit that distinguishes it from smaller variants, it will also look the part. The i5 M60 xDrive, an all-electric car with a more humble but nonetheless remarkable 585bhp, is another alternative for those looking for a potent family hauler.

2024 BMW 5 Series Touring: Expected Launch Details

The market debut of the eighth-generation 5-Series Touring has been set for the spring of 2024. Since BMW opted to restrict the estate's availability to certain markets, customers who reside outside of Europe, Japan, or Taiwan will be unable to purchase one for the time being. According to the brand, the European, Japanese, and Taiwanese markets will be the only ones to receive the forthcoming 2024 5 Series Touring. It should be noted that the new BMW 5-Series Sedan is currently on sale in the South Korean market and will follow soon in other countries, including Germany, where the initial deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 21. Moving ahead, the executive midsize sedan will hit the road for the first time in the US on October 28, followed by other international markets on November 25.
