Tata Motors has begun taking reservations for the updated 2023 Harrier and Safari SUVs in India. The all-new SUVs are the first Tata passenger cars to include advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), as well as some other feature upgrades over the previous versions. The feature was added to the SUVs after rival brands, such as the Mahindra and the MG Motor, began offering ADAS technology in their vehicles. Tata Motors previously unveiled the Red Dark Edition Harrier and Safari at the 2023 Auto Expo held in January 2023. There are no significant exterior cosmetic updates for the 2023 models, but the cabin sees some changes. The current 8.8-inch infotainment system in the SUVs will be replaced by a new 10.25-inch display. The display will also receive a new operating system and will continue to offer accessories like wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, as well as iRA-connected vehicle technology. A total of two hundred voice commands in six languages will be supported by the system. The instrument cluster is also new, with the existing part-digital unit being replaced by a fully digital unit. The new unit will have a redesigned interface and will support turn-by-turn navigation.

The inclusion of the ADAS technology is the most important update, though. The 2023 Harrier and Safari will have lane departure warning, door open alert, blind spot and rear cross-traffic monitoring, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition, forward and rear collision warning, and autonomous emergency braking. Although impressive, rivals like the Mahindra XUV700 and the MG Hector offer extra features like traffic jam assistance, adaptive cruise control, and a Smart pilot (steering assist).
Up to six airbags, ESC, ABS, an electronic parking brake with auto hold, all-wheel disc brakes, cornering lights, hill start assist, and hill descent control are additional safety features that will be offered with the vehicle. An air purifier, a 360-degree camera, a powered driver seat with memory, ventilated front seats, auto headlamps, and wipers are just a few of the comfort and convenience features that will be available in the interim. The Safari also includes second-row seats with ventilation and mood lighting around the edges of the panoramic sunroof.
According to Tata Motors, the Harrier and the Safari will receive a new 2.0-litre Kryotec diesel engine that complies with BS6 Phase 2 emission standards. The engine will continue to produce 168bhp of maximum power and 350Nm of peak torque, and a 6-speed manual or automatic gearbox will be an option. The Indian automaker asserts that the manual will have a mileage rating of 16.35 km/l and the automatic at 14.6 km/l. In the upcoming weeks, expect the manufacturer to reveal the updated Harrier's price, and the updated Safari should follow soon after.
