Kia began operations in the country with its potent Seltos SUV, which remains one of the most beloved models among Indian buyers. The Seltos managed to tick all the boxes and proved its worth as a tough SUV. 2023 Kia Seltos vs Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Engine & Transmission

The new Kia Seltos facelift replaces the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol unit that is more potent. This new petrol turbocharged engine produces a peak torque of 253Nm and 158bhp of maximum power. However, the SUV's diesel engine and naturally aspirated (NA) gasoline engine have not changed. The peak torque delivered by the diesel engine is 250Nm, compared to the maximum torque generated by the naturally aspirated gasoline engine at 144Nm. The new Seltos has a variety of gearbox choices, including a torque-convertor automatic, a CVT automatic, a six-speed manual transmission, a six-speed iMT, and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic unit.

Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, meanwhile, has a 1.5-litre petrol engine that can crank out 136.8Nm of peak torque at 4,400rpm and 101.64bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm. For a hybrid system, the Zeta+ and Alpha+ trims of the SUV receive an engine with a slightly larger displacement that is combined with an electric motor. The 1.5-litre gasoline engine in these versions produces 122Nm of maximum torque at up to 4,800rpm and 91bhp of peak power at 5,500rpm. There is also a petrol-CNG version available. The SUV's peak power and torque ratings in this version are 99bhp and 136Nm, respectively. The SUV offers three different types of transmissions: an e-CVT, a six-speed automatic, and a five-speed manual gearbox.

The all-new Seltos measures 4,365mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,645mm in height. The wheelbase of the SUV is 2,610mm long. On the other hand, the Grand Vitara is 4,325mm long, 1,795mm wide, and 1,645mm tall, with a 2,600mm wheelbase. The Seltos is somewhat bigger in size than the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. As a result, the Seltos will have a more substantial road impact as compared to the Grand Vitara. The ground clearance of the Seltos is 190mm, while that of the Grand Vitara is 208mm. Moreover, the new Seltos' 433-litre boot is 177 litre larger than the Grand Vitara hybrid's.

Comparable features including connected car tech, an infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, faux leather seats, premium speakers, wireless charging, automatic climate control, LED lights, and more, are offered by the Grand Vitara and the Seltos. The Grand Vitara and the Seltos also sport a panoramic sunroof. While the Maruti Suzuki product receives a head-up display unit, the Seltos receives high-end speakers from Bose. There are minute variances in equipment, so if you're choosing between both the cars, go for the feature you desire most out of them.

As far as the safety is concerned, the Seltos and the Grand Vitara boast six airbags, ABS with EBD, stability control, a reverse parking camera and sensors, seatbelts with pretensioners, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and hill hold assist, among other features.

2023 Kia Seltos vs Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Price

Prices for the updated Kia Seltos with the petrol-manual drivetrain range from Rs 10.89 lakh to Rs 18.29 lakh. The price band for the petrol-manual Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara varies from Rs 10.70 lakh to Rs 16.91 lakh. There are four versions of the Seltos facelift petrol-automatic, with prices beginning from Rs 16.59 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh. The prices of the five petrol-automatic Grand Vitara variants go from Rs 13.60 lakh to Rs 19.79 lakh. The 2023 Kia Seltos comes in 5 diesel-manual variations, with prices starting at Rs 11.99 lakh and going up to Rs 18.29 lakh. 

The three diesel-automatic variants of the all-new Kia Seltos range in price from Rs 18.19 lakh to Rs 19.99 lakh. A diesel-automatic engine is not offered with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, whereas the 2023 Kia Seltos doesn't have a CNG-manual powertrain option. Lastly, there are two versions of the Grand Vitara CNG-manual, with pricing ranging from Rs 13.05 lakh to Rs 14.86 lakh. All mentioned prices are ex-showroom.
