2023 Kia Carens Launched at Rs 10.45 Lakh, Gets New 1.5 Turbo-petrol Unit

Kia India has launched the much-anticipated 2023 Carens at a starting price of Rs 10.45 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has introduced the MPV with an updated powertrain and feature equipment.

Kia India has launched the 2023 Carens in India at an introductory price of Rs 10.45 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has replaced the 1.4-litre unit with the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine. The MPV is equipped with a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that puts out 159bhp and 253Nm. All powertrains available with the Carens now comply with RDE norms and E-20 fuel to meet the stricter emission norms, effective in April 2023. Premium, Prestige, Luxury, and Luxury Plus are four versions of the MPV. Apart from this, Kia has also introduced the new Seltos SUV at prices starting from Rs 10.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker has updated the model with RDE and E20 fuel-compliant engines. Further, it has discontinued the turbo-petrol engine. In India, the Seltos SUV will now be available with 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and turbo-diesel engines. 2023 Kia Carens: Mechanical Updates 

Speaking of the powertrain, the new MPV is available with the 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel unit. As mentioned, now the MPV has a new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that churns out 20hp, 11Nm more output than the previous unit at 159bhp and 253Nm. For transmission, the new turbo-petrol engine uses an iMT and seven-speed DCT unit.

2023 Kia Carens: Features 

The carmaker has made slight improvements to the feature list of the Carens. Now, a 12.5-inch digital instrument cluster with the 4.2-inch colour MID has been made standard across the range.  It was formerly an option with the Prestige trim. As mentioned,  the Carens is still available in five trim levels, including Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. Only the top-spec Luxury Plus trim is available in 6- and 7-seater configurations; all other trims are 7-seaters only.

Auto climate control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with connected car technology, keyless entry, cruise control, heated front seats, wireless phone charging, and a rear-view camera are some of the other features of the new Carens. For safety, 6 airbags, ABS, ESC, hill start and descent control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system are all standard with the model.

2023 Kia Carens: Prices & Market Rivals 

Price-wise, the 2023 Carens, now range between Rs 10.45 lakh and Rs 18.95 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The cost of the new turbo-petrol and diesel variants has increased by as much as Rs 50,000, while the cost of the naturally-aspirated petrol versions has increased by Rs 25,000. It competes with the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the XL6 in India.
