The BMW X5 M and the X6 M versions for 2023 have been revealed to the public by the German automaker. The BMW X5 M and the X6 M performance SUVs are only available for 2023 in Competition trim. Additionally, the new BMW X5 M Competition and the X6 M Competition mark the debut of mild hybrid technology in these BMW M models. The 48V mild hybrid system introduces a motor that gives the two performance SUVs an extra 12bhp of power and 200Nm of torque. The luxury car manufacturer is also planning on launching facelift editions of the X5 and the X6, having unveiled both SUVs already. According to media reports, the updated BMW X5 will be launched in the Indian market in August this year.
In terms of the powertrain, both the new X5 M and the X6 M Competition are powered by BMW's 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8, which produces 617bhp of maximum power at 6,000rpm and 750Nm of peak torque between 1,800 and 5,800rpm. The engine is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. According to the auto manufacturer, the SUVs accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds. The top speed of both SUVs is 250km/h. However, the optional BMW M Driver's Pack allows for a further increase in top speed, up to 290km/h. Further, the M xDrive All-Wheel-Drive system and the Active M Differential are also included in the BMW X5 Competition and the BMW X6 Competition models.

Along with a slew of additional features, the X5 M and the X6 M Competition SUVs offer double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension arrangements with adaptive dampers for improved handling and steering response. The Active M Differential and the all-wheel-drive system now collaborate with near-actuator wheel slip limitation for the first time, allowing for faster and more accurate responses to changes in road conditions as well as improved traction.
On the outside, the X5 M and the X6 M both appear more aggressive than ever. The X6 M has a new splitter element on the front bumper, and both SUVs have larger versions of BMW's distinguishable kidney grille up front. The X5 M has updated taillight graphics and a roof-mounted spoiler, whereas the X6 M, an SUV coupe, has a more subdued lip spoiler. Both SUVs come with 21-inch alloy wheels as standard equipment, but customers can choose to upgrade to 22-inch wheels.
The interior of the cars also receives a few upgrades. The performance models of both SUVs now have BMW's twin-screen setup on the dash, along with a host of other M parts for the cabin, such as seats, a steering wheel, seat belts, and pedals.
