Porsche’s baby SUV, the Macan, now gets styling updates and more powerful engines. Available in three variants, the Porsche Macan’s prices start at Rs 83.21 lakh (ex-showroom).
Alongside the launch of the Porsche Taycan, Porsche has also updated its crossover SUV, the Macan. The changes to the latter include rejigging of its variants and updated engine choices. The 2022 Macan is now priced from Rs 83.21 lakh (ex-showroom).
Let’s begin by looking at the cosmetic enhancements. The fascia is largely the same, but the headlamp and the grille design are now sharper compared to that of the predecessor model. While the overall silhouette of the SUV remains the same, elements such as the grille, bumpers, and tail lamps have been reworked for a more up-to-date appearance. The updated Macan now comes with a total of seven-wheel design options. The cabin gets some tweaks as well. The first thing you notice in the cabin is the steering wheel, which has been borrowed from the 911 series.
The base Macan gets a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor, which puts out 19bhp (a total of 252bhp) more than the predecessor. The base variant is capable of clocking the 0 – 100km/h within 6.2 seconds (claimed).
The mid-spec Porsche Macan S gets a 2.9-litre V6, which is tuned to produce 374bhp – 25.6bhp more than the predecessor. The highest-spec GTS variant also features the same 2.9-litre V6 but in an aggressive state of tune, which allows it to make 433bhp – 59bhp more –shoot to 100km/h from a standstill in 4.3 seconds (claimed).
All Macan variants feature a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, which sends the power to all the wheels via an all-wheel-drive system.
The Macan GTS can be had with optional air suspension under the GTS Sport package. The Sport package also brings along 21-inch GT wheels with high-performance tyres. The package adds a few enhancements to the cabin, such as 18-way sport seats, the Carbon interior package, Race-Tex upholstery with extended leather elements, contrast stitching, and GTS lettering in Python Green.
The 2021 Porsche Macan mainly rivals the likes of the BMW X4, Jaguar F-Pace, Range Rover Velar, and Mercedes-Benz GLE.
