The 2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6 arrives with a new 1.5-litre DualJet petrol engine, a six-speed automatic transmission, and a raft of new features and equipment.
Following the arrival of the updated Ertiga a couple of days ago, Maruti Suzuki has now launched the refreshed version of its premium alternative, the XL6, in the country. Priced between Rs 11.29 lakh and Rs 14.55 lakh (ex-showroom), the 2022 XL6 gets a new mild-hybrid 1.5-litre DualJet petrol powertrain and a six-speed automatic gearbox among other updates.
Let’s dive deeper and see what’s new in the updated XL6.
2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: Design, Interior, and Features
The 2022 version of the XL6 is not a generation change, meaning it’s just a facelift. Cosmetic updates on the outside include a shiny new chrome grille, redesigned 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and a chrome bar on the tailgate. To make it look more upmarket, the company is now offering it in new dual-tone colour options with a contrasting black roof. That said, to the untrained eye, these changes barely make any difference.
Inside, the dashboard design is more or less unchanged than the outgoing version, albeit there’s a lot of new stuff in the new model. For example, it gets the updated 7.0-inch SmartPlay Pro infotainment touchscreen (featuring a 360-degree camera, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay), as well as ventilated seats, telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel, and wireless charging. The automatic versions get paddle shifters now.
Other than these, the top-end variants of the six-seater MPV get full-LED headlamps, automatic climate control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, cool cupholders, captain seats in the 2nd row and reclining 3rd-row seats.
2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: Engine, Gearbox Options, and Fuel Efficiency
The main highlight of the 2022 XL6 is its new drivetrain. Offered in a sole petrol engine, the XL6 now features the company’s new 1.5-litre DualJet engine. As its name suggests, this engine features two fuel injectors (per cylinder), while it also comes with Maruti Suzuki’s smart-hybrid tech. The engine develops 101.6bhp at 6,000rpm along with a peak torque of 136.8Nm at 4,400rpm. These figures are slightly lower than the outgoing XL6’s power and torque (103bhp and 138Nm), but it shouldn’t make much of a difference in real-world performance.
Transmission options include a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, as well as a new six-speed automatic (replaces the four-speed AT of the old version), which is optional on all variants. Maruti claims the 2022 XL6 can return a fuel efficiency of up to 20.97km/l with the manual gearbox and 20.27km/l with the automatic.
2022 Maruti Suzuki XL6: Safety
All XL6 variants will come fitted with four airbags (driver, front passenger and front-seat side) as standard. ABS, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist (HHA) are also standard in all the trims.
