Maruti Suzuki will soon launch the all-new Baleno hatchback. A test mule of the hatchback has been spotted being tested, giving us some idea of the upcoming B+ segment hatchback.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno made its debut back in 2015, and since then, its styling has been constantly updated by the manufacturer. Later in its life cycle, the Baleno got a marginally powerful engine, and around the same time, Maruti Suzuki pulled the plug on the RS variant, which was the more powerful variant.
The B+ segment hatchback did not receive a substantial upgrade in terms of features and mechanicals, while its key rival, the i20, has received a generation upgrade. The competition has grown stiffer as well, given the entry of the Tata Altroz in the same segment and the significant spike in the launches and sales of the sub-four-metre crossover SUVs in the Indian market.
Now, the company is focusing on bringing a new generation of the Baleno hatchback, which is expected to be based on an all-new platform. The new platform could improve its crash-test result, which means that the car will be safer.
The 2022 Baleno is expected to make its debut with the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as the outgoing model, but this time, the new hatchback is likely to feature a mild-hybrid system as well.
In terms of features, the new Baleno could get ventilated seats up front, a sunroof and, connected car tech. The 2022 Baleno could also feature a wireless smartphone charger.
The outgoing hatchback is priced between Rs 5.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 9.45 lakh (ex-showroom). The new Maruti Suzuki Baleno is expected to carry a marginally higher price tag than the outgoing model.
