The Alto K10 moniker is making a comeback, as Maruti is ready to replace its smallest hatchback.
India’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki is now accepting bookings for its upcoming small hatchback – the Alto K10. It will be sold through Maruti’s Arena outlets, and while it has not been launched yet, you can book your unit for Rs 11,000.
Now, the Alto’s successor has been in the pipeline for quite some time now, but it was always thought that it would be a like-for-like replacement, meaning that the 800cc hatchback would be replaced with a new 800cc hatchback. However, by calling it the Alto K10, Maruti’s hinted that the new Alto will use a 1.0-litre engine. In all likeliness, it will be the same engine that's used in the S-Presso, WagonR, and Celerio, although Maruti could de-tune it a little to make the Alto a bit different from the rest.
Maruti could also keep the existing Alto on showroom floors alongside the new Alto K10 – exactly how it used to be before the K10 was shown the door. As far as updates go, Maruti has revealed that the new Alto K10 will be a step up in terms of comfort, safety, convenience, and connectivity features.
The Alto currently retails between Rs 3.39 and 5.42 lakh (ex-showroom), but with a bigger engine, we expect the price to go up.
