Force Motors has officially announced the timeline of the launch and deliveries of the second-generation Gurkha.
The 2021 Force Gurkha has been unveiled, and the manufacturer will make an official price announcement on September 27. The second-generation Gurkha will directly rival the Mahindra Thar, which is priced between Rs 12.78 lakh and Rs 15.08 lakh (ex-showroom). The price of the new Gurkha is expected to be in the same ballpark. Force Motors has also confirmed that its deliveries will begin from October 15.
The 2021 (MY21) Force Gurkha is based on a completely new platform and continues with a body-on-ladder chassis construction. While the chassis is all-new, the engine is the same 2.6-litre turbo diesel mill as its predecessor, but now it's BS6 complaint. This engine produces 90bhp and 250Nm of torque. It would have been interesting to the 140bhp 2.2-litre turbo diesel engine of the first-gen Force Gurkha Extreme in the new car. The Gurkha gets a five-speed unit for the gearbox, with front and rear manually locking differentials. It has a water wading capacity of 700mm.
The interior has been reworked as well. The Gurkha now gets a seven-inch infotainment system, with Android Auto and Apple Carplay compatibility. The instrument cluster has been revised as well. Just like the Thar, the Gurkha is now a four-seater vehicle. Rear passengers get captain seats with individual armrests. Other features include all-LED headlamps, fog lamps with cornering functions, four USB sockets, power windows, and central locking.
Even after a generation upgrade, the Force Gurkha lacks numerous features in comparison to the Mahindra Thar. Mainly, the Gurkha is not offered with an automatic transmission option, which the Thar gets. The Thar also gets a soft-top convertible variant, and it can also be had with a petrol powertrain as well.
