A few days before the car's global debut, Skoda has released the powertrain & feature details of the upcoming 2020 Octavia.
Skoda recently gave us a glimpse of the all-new fourth-gen Octavia's look via some design sketches. Now, building up to the car's global debut in Prague on 11th November, the Czech carmaker has revealed a major chunk of the car's powertrain & featural details. As expected, apart from petrol & diesel powertrains, the 2020 Octavia will also be introduced with mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
The choice of petrol engines will be amongst 1.0 -litre TSI (109bhp), 1.5-litre TSI (148bhp) & 2.0-litre TSI (188bhp) units. The former two options, when paired with the 7-speed DSG gearbox, will feature 48V mild-hybrid architecture. Both engines can also be had in non-hybrid guises with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The 2.0-litre petrol engine will be available exclusively with all-wheel-drive & 7-speed DSG gearbox.
As for the diesel engine options, three new TDI units from the brand's EVO generation, each of 2.0-litre capacity, will power the 2020 Octavia. The three oil burner units will be rated at 114bhp, 148bhp, & 197bhp and will be available with the 6-speed manual gearbox. As for the plug-in hybrid version, the 2020 Octavia iV will follow into the footsteps of the recently-unveiled Superb iV and will be powered by the same 1.4-litre TSI unit & 6-speed DSG gearbox. However, the Octavia iV is expected to get two variants – a 201bhp unit & a more powerful 241bhp unit that will follow in later months.
In terms of features, the 2020 Octavia will get plenty of firsts, ranging from full-LED Matrix headlamps (the first Octavia model to get them) to a head-up display (the first Skoda model to get it). Other updates include a revised Virtual Cockpit. The 10-inch digital instrument cluster can be customised further and offers four different layouts. While the interior layout & design have been heavily updated, what will stand out in the 2020 Octavia's interior is the new two-spoke steering wheel (also available in a multifunction version) & a new shift-by-wire gear controller (like the 2020 VW Golf) that replaces the erstwhile DSG gear selector. In place of the familiar DSG shifter, a small rocker switch will be used for selecting the drive modes – R (reverse), N (neutral) and D/S (drive/sport) – as well as a button for the parking mode (P). Some optional features like a tri-zone Climatronic air-con unit, a KESSY keyless entry system, & ThermoFlux fabric-covered sports seats will also be on offer.
Post the commercial launch of the 2020 Octavia, Skoda has also confirmed that updated Scout & vRS versions of the Octavia will also be launched in the subsequent months.
