The 2020 Lexus RX 450hL offers more practicality, thanks to an additional third row of seating & is powered by a BS-VI compliant 3.5-litre V6 petrol motor (part of the hybrid drive system).
Luxury marque Lexus has rejuvenated its presence in the Indian market with the launch of the 2020 RX 450hL. Until now, the RX 450h (five-seater) hybrid SUV was on sale in India in two trims (Luxury & F Sport). However, the RX 450hL offers more practicality, thanks to an additional third row of seating. What's interesting here is the fact that the RX 450hL has been launched at a comparatively lower price of ₹ 99 lakh. The RX 450h Luxury, in contrast, is priced at ₹ 1.29 crore (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi). Bookings for the RX 450hL are officially open across all Lexus dealerships in India.
While the exterior changes are conventional & subtle (new standard 18-inch allow wheels, reworked front & rear fascia along with redesigned, slimmer triple-beam LED headlamp units), it's the changes made under the skin that beg our attention. The 2020 RX 450hL receives an updated infotainment system, which now supports Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Indian markets are likely to get the bigger 12.3-inch touchscreen, which supports dynamic voice recognition.
To improve ride & handling, the suspension on the RX 450hL has been made stiffer. The shock absorbers have been redesigned to work with stiffer roll bars, and the dampers have been upgraded too, which now feature a Friction Control Device (FCD) for absorbing high-frequency vibrations. Lexus has also added an Active Cornering Assist (ACA), that will apply the brakes on the inner tyre (while making a high-speed turn) to improve handling.
The RX 450hL continues to draw its power from the 3.5-litre Atkinson Cycle V6 motor, which was found in the previous RX 450h models. However, the motor is now BS-VI compliant. Combined, the hybrid powertrain has an output of 304bhp.
