The exclusive limited-edition versions of the i3s and i8 will see a combined production run of just 1,100 units worldwide.
With an ever-growing need to adopt more and more EVs and hybrids, it makes sense for manufacturers to make them more attractive, more modern, and, in the case of BMW, more glamorous. That is exactly what the Munich-based carmaker has done with its electric and hybrid frontrunners – the i3s hatchback and the i8 Coupe/Roadster – by producing their special, limited-edition versions.
The BMW i3s Edition RoadStyle will see an adequate production run of 900 units, while the i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition will be available as both Coupe and Roadster, but only 200 units will be up for grabs. What's interesting here is that BMW has referred to the i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition as 'the final chapter in the story of a very special car,' indicating that this may be the final set of upgrades for the i8 model line. BMW aims to start the production by the end of 2019 and will announce the prices closer to the on-sale date. Both limited-edition derivatives only feature cosmetic changes and interior trim upgrades.
Coming to the specifics, the i3s Edition RoadStyle has been finished in Fluid Black exterior paint with an 'E-Copper' finishing on the kidney grille inlays, front bumper air deflectors, and side skirt accents. Meanwhile, the 20-inch double-spoke BMW i alloys receive a Jet Black finish. Inside, the cabin has been draped in Dalbergia Brown natural leather, with Dark Oak matte fine-wood trim finishers. The headrests get a special 'Edition RoadStyle' stitchwork. The i3s Edition RoadStyle continues to be powered by a 184bhp, 270Nm eDrive motor.
The i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition, on the other hand, features a Sophisto Grey metallic paint finish. It also gets the signature 'E-Copper' accents, on its wheels, kidney grille inserts, and side skirt accents. The tailgate inlay & brake callipers receive the High Gloss Black treatment, with blue additional blue detailing on the latter. Unlike the i3s Edition RoadStyle, the 'Ultimate Sophisto Edition' badging on the i8 can be seen on the door sill plates. Each unit of the i8 Ultimate Sophisto Edition also gets a '1 of 200' plaque inside the cabin.
