Volkswagen has released a teaser sketch of the upcoming 2019 Touareg. The SUV will make its global debut on 23rd March
It has been a while since Volkswagen gave the Tourage an update. The current generation model went on sale in the global market in 2010 and was later updated in 2015 to bring it in line with Volkswagen’s new design language. With new models being introduced in the segment since then, Touareg has started to show its age. The German car maker has now released a teaser sketch of the upcoming new Touareg and it is about to make its debut on 23rd March.
The teaser image that Volkswagen has released greatly resembles the T-Prime GTE Concept that was showcased at Auto China 2016 in Beijing. This third-generation model has heavily updated cosmetics but the mechanicals remains more or less unchanged. If the sketch is anything to go by, expect the Touareg to have a good aerodynamic design with flat bonnet and a long wheelbase. Up front, it will have a chunky chrome grille, much like the other Volkswagen models on sale currently. The grille will blend into the headlights to give the front-end a wide stance that you’d expect from an SUV. In profile, the sketch shows 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Underneath the body, the Touareg will be based on Volkswagen’s MLB platform that also underpins the Audi Q7, Bentley Bentayga, the Lamborghini Urus and the Porsche Cayenne. The Wolfsburg-based car maker hasn’t revealed the specification of the new Touareg as yet, but it is safe to assume that it will be offered in petrol as well as diesel motors to start with. The company may also bring in a plug-in hybrid at a later stage.
Volkswagen will take the wraps off the new Touareg on 23rd March in China. There is no clarity about the Touareg making its way to India as yet.
