Volkswagen has revealed the facelift versions of the Golf range with minor cosmetic tweaks and addition of more features.
The Volkswagen Golf range has now received an update that has given the car subtle changes to the exterior, but with significant updates to the interior and powertrains of offer.
The headlamps now feature optional LEDs as Xenons will be offered standard, however the tail lamps are complete LED lights with the dynamic indicator lights similar to the ones found of modern Audis. The front and rear bumpers have been tweaked slightly with some highlights depending on the models and that is pretty much it, for the exterior updates.
As for the engines that Golf and the Golf GTI both get engine upgrades. The standard car gets a 1.5-litre, four pot turbo petrol with cylinder deactivation and a variable geometry turbo which churns out 148hp, and a Blue Motion version that develops 128hp. The GTI has a 227hp output in the standard car, but the performance spec will produce 242hp and comes mated to the new 7-speed dual-clutch DSG transmission.
Among the family of the Golf, Volkswagen also updated the Golf GTE and the Golf Estate. The changes to the interior are also substantial in the new Golf. Though the styling is mostly similar, modern gadgets like a a large 9.2 inch touch screen infotainment system, and a digital instrument cluster, similar to the virtual cockpit found on new Audis. The infotainment system also features gesture control.
Volkswagen have also included more safety equipment to the Golf like Traffic Jam Assist on automatic DSG models, which allows the car to crawl/creep forward and stop on its own with break assist. Volkswagen have also announced that the Golf will feature front collision assistance with Pedestrian detection and trailer assist system.
The new Golf range will go on sale in Europe in 2017 first and then will cater to the American market.
