The all-new Maruti Suzuki Swift is confirmed to launch in India at the upcoming 2018 Auto Expo.
Here are all the essential facts and figures of the upcoming 2018 Swift in one place.
Design: In its new avatar, the Swift will retain its iconic coupe-like silhouette that debuted with the original model back in 2005. Similarities aside, the new model has actually been designed from ground up. At the front is a new Jaguar F-Type esque grille and new headlights lifted from the Dzire.
The rear door handle this time around lives in the C-pillar, which gives the new Swift a genuine coupe-like stance. Rear gets brand new LED tail lamps as well. The interiors have been completely overhauled and now feature a sporty new dashboard design with a lot of new equipment thrown in.
Specifications: The new Swift will continue to draw its power from a very familiar pair of petrol and diesel engines. The petrol is the 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, K-Series engine that produces 82bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. The diesel engine is the oh-so-popular Fiat-sourced 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder motor good for 74bhp and 190Nm. Fuel economy has improved across both powertrain options at a claimed 22km/l in the petrol and 28.4km/l in the diesel.
For the first time ever, Maruti will offer an automatic transmission on the Swift - AMT to be precise. The icing on the cake is that the auto option will be offered on both petrol and diesel variants. In its latest iteration, the Swift shares its new lightweight ‘Heartect’ platform with the Baleno, Dzire and Ignis.
Features: On its top-spec ZXi+/ZDi+ variants, the 2018 Swift is confirmed to offer features like a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights, reverse parking camera, 15-inch two-tone alloy wheels, auto headlamps with follow me home feature, push button start, leather wrapped steering, etc.
Basic safety essentials like dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and ISOFIX child seat mounts will come standard on all variants.
Expected Price: We expect the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift to be priced between Rs. 4.95 lakh - 8 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The car will compete with the likes of Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Hyundai Grand i10, Toyota Etios Liva, etc.
