Porsche has announced that the company will be launching its updated 2017 models of the flagship 911 in Turbo and Turbo S spec during April of 2016, in America

Porsche will be launching the updated 2017 model year 911 Turbo and Turbo S in both coupe and cabriolet form in America during April 2016. Most of the updates are ‘go faster’ in nature, keeping in mind the nature of these flagship Porsche 911 models. There are subtle cosmetic updates as well to distinguish the new cars from the earlier versions.

Beginning with the mechanical updates to make these supercars faster for 2016, the 3.8 litre twin turbocharged flat six engine gets modified intake ports in the cylinder heads, new fuel injectors and higher fuel pressure to add 20 more bhp over the outgoing models. The Turbo S models get a larger impelle for the turbos resulting in a max power output of 580bhp and 748Nm of peak torque. The engine in the S will now redline at 7,200 rpm, 200 rpm higher than the earlier version. The 911 Turbo now packs 540bhp of max power.

Both cars also get something called a dynamic boost function that maintains boost pressure during load changes (when the throttle pedal is slightly released), this is done by keeping the throttle valve partially open and interrupting fuel injection. The end result is lighting quick throttle response during varying throttle inputs, especially in Sport and Sport Plus modes.

The end result is that the Turbo models can now go from standstill to 96 km/h in 2.9 seconds while the Turbo S cars can go from 0 to 96 km/h in 2.8 seconds. The Turbo maxes out at 316 km/h and the Turbo S at 328 km/h.

Fuel efficiency is said to have been increased despite the bump up in power owing to revised gear change mappings.

All Turbo and Turbo S models for the 2017 model year will come equipped with the Sport Chrono Package with steering wheel mounted mode switch and Sport Response button. There is a new 918 Spyder inspired steering wheel. The Sport Response button provides 20 seconds of optimal acceleration.

2017 models of the 911 Turbo will also get a new Porsche Stability Management Sport mode which allows the driver to explore the limits of the car further. Carbon ceramic brakes and active roll stabilization will be offered as standard on the S models in the new versions.

On the styling front, the new 911 Turbos will get a redesigned front end with new LED front lights, new side air blades and a new central air intake. The side profile consists of new 20 inch alloys (the Turbo models get S model size wheels now), there are also new door handles too. Around the back, new elements consist of new three dimensional tail lamps, there are redesigned dual tail pipes with high gloss chrome finish on the Turbo models and black chrome in the S models and a new rear grille.

The price list for the new cars are as follows for the United States;
