Let's now take a look at how the car's appearance inside out. The new E-Class is based on the Mercedes’ MRA modular architecture, which can also be found inside the current C-Class and the GLC SUV. With the use of aluminium parts in the structure, the new E-Class will be lighter and stronger than the model it is set to replace.
The exterior has received quite a few changes. The headlamps now feature new dual stripe DRLs, and multi-beam technology which was first introduced in the CLS-Class. The one in the E-Class will be updated with more number of LED lights in the cluster. The front bumper has also been updated along with small changes to the front grille avalaible in either a dual slat with the 3 point star in the middle or a classic multi slat grille with a top mounted 3 point star logo on the bonnet. Subtle changes to the rear bumper have also been made mostly to accommodate the all new tail lamps, designed similar to the current C and S Class. The chiseled boot has also been given a more soft curved treatment.
The new E-Class has also been given an updated interior to align itself with the style and technology from the S-Class that trickled down to the latest C-Class. The dash will now get a dual tone black and beige trim with a Piano Black finished centre console and a new infotainment screen. The COMAND touch dial system which featured on the S-Class and then the C-Class has also been added to the new E-Class.
For the Indian market, the E200, E250d and the E350d variants will be available. The 200 will feature a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder petrol engine. The 250d will get a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine and the 350d will have a 3.0 litre V6 diesel mill. In addition, Mercedes will also introduce an AMG version of the new E-Class later in the year which will also make its way to Indian shores.
Though we don’t expect to see the new E-Class at the upcoming Auto Expo in Greater Noida scheduled in February, 2016, but the India launch of the E-Class is expected to be later in the year.
