The 7-seater SUV will make its debut at the Paris Motor Show next month
Land Rover has given us a glimpse of what its new Discovery looks like by releasing an image showing the front-end of the car. This new 7-seater SUV will make its debut at the 2016 Paris Motor Show next month. The British car maker first gave us a foretaste of this upcoming Discovery in the form of the Discovery Vision Concept at the 2014 New York Auto Show. In this 2017 avatar, the Discovery ditches the rather boxy design of its predecessor and looks in line with the newer Land Rover models.
Up front, the next-gen Disco sports the typically Land Rover honeycomb grille on either side of which are mean looking blacked out headlights with Daytime Running Lamps. The large bumper gets c-shaped air-dams and silver scuff plates to go with them. Like the current-gen Discovery, this one too will sit above the Discovery Sport in Land Rover’s product portfolio. The new Discovery is based on a new aluminium platform that helps it shed some weight making it lighter than its predecessor. The Discovery on sale currently tips the scale just above 2,500kg.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s Chief Design Officer, said: “New Discovery redefines the large SUV. Land Rover’s design and engineering teams have revolutionised the Discovery DNA to create a highly desirable, extremely versatile and hugely capable premium SUV.”
As is often the case, Land Rover hasn’t revealed the car’s engine specifications as yet, but we expect it to come with the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engine that also works force on other Jaguar and Land Rover models. It is also very likely that the car will be offered with a more powerful V6 in the higher spec variants. In India, the Discovery is only offered with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel currently.
The 2017 Discovery will make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show next month. The car will eventually make it to India sometime next year and will be priced higher than the current generation model.
