Prices of the all-new Hyundai Verna start at Rs. 7.99 lakh for the petrol version, and Rs. 9.19 lakh for the diesel version, both ex-showroom.
Hyundai has launched the 2017 version of its Verna mid-sized saloon in India. The new Hyundai Verna has been built on the company’s new K2 platform. Not only does it flaunt Hyundai’s new design language, it’s also longer, lighter and more spacious than the car it replaces.
The front is dominated by Hyundai’s characteristic hexagonal grille, with the new cascading effect. Also, the new front fascia flaunts projector headlamps with DRLs and projector fog lamps. At the rear, the long, Elantra-esque tail lamps definitely stand out. The side profile of the 2017 Verna resembles that of the outgoing model.
The cockpit of the 2017 Hyundai Verna reflects a lot of design elements from its bigger siblings – Creta and Elantra. The third generation saloon now sports a new 7-inch infotainment system, which supports both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Other features like LED DRLs, cruise control, rain sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, keyless entry with push button start, auto folding mirrors, cooled glove box and leather upholstery – are all present in the top-spec trim. The top variant also comes equipped with hands free boot opening and ventilated front seats – a first for this segment.
The new Hyundai Verna is powered by either a 1.6-litre petrol, or a 1.6-litre diesel engine. The powertrains produce 121bhp and 126bhp respectively - and come with an option of 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions. The automatic gearbox is the same 6-speed torque converter unit which is found on the Creta. The 1.4-litre engines have been given a miss on the new model.
The ARAI approved fuel economy figures for the manual transmission equipped models of the new Verna are 17.7 km/l (petrol) and 24.75 km/l (diesel). Hyundai is claiming that the 2017 Verna will have the lowest maintenance costs in its segment. Furthermore, the Korean company is offering a 3 year standard warranty with 3 year roadside assistance on the car.
The Hyundai Verna will directly challenge segment best-sellers - Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, along with other mid-sized saloons like Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento.
