Second-gen Audi Q5 to be unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. It will be based around Volkswagen's MLBevo platform like the new A4 and Q7.

Come September 29, Audi will unveil the next-gen Q5 at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The Ingolstadt-based luxury car maker has confirmed that it will be bringing the 2017 Audi Q5 to the motor show. Along with the confirmation, Audi has also sent a small teaser of the new model, showing only the new tail-light design.

In addition to that, the second-gen Q5 will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity options. Apart from this, Audi has not divulged any other details of the new Q5 thus far. Unofficially, though, there’s a lot of information about the new Q5 that’s already out.

The first-gen Audi Q5 was launched in 2008, meaning it’s been a little long in the tooth now. The second-gen model however is going to mark significant improvements over the current car. The 2017 Audi Q5 is based around the MLBevo platform – the same architecture that underpins the new A4 and Q7. Thanks to this, the Q5 is going to get weight savings of up to 100 kilograms over the outgoing car. Similarly, the new model will have completely new interior design and layout with highlights such as Audi’s Virtual Cockpit, new MMI interface, etc.

Design wise, the Q5 will sport an evolutionary approach in the new model like the bigger brother Q7. Thanks to its compact dimensions though, it’s expected to retain a bit of its aggression. Under the hood, the Q5 is expected to come powered by the same set of engines as the new A4 - turbocharged four-cylinder petrols and diesels along with bigger V6 engines. All wheel drive will be standard, but a front-wheel drive version is also rumored. Additionally, there will be a SQ5 performance version or even a full blown RS Q5 derivative. A plug-in hybrid version may also be introduced at a later stage.

More details will emerge at the official unveiling, so, stay tuned as we bring you more details from the 2016 Paris Motor Show next week.
